If you go to your doctor and complain that you're having difficulty sleeping or maybe sleeping all the time, you're exhausted and lack the motivation to do anything and you're feeling a deep sense of sadness or emptiness and you feel like your life has no purpose....then your doctor will probably prescribe an antidepressant.
But antidepressants don't "cure" your depression or make you happy. They simply mask the symptoms and make you feel numb and spaced out.
Big Pharma is behind much of the research that fueled the theory that depression is a "chemical imbalance" in the brain.

But it's now coming to light that the research was skewed and that anti-depressants have proven only slightly better than placebos and that depression couldn't be brushed off as a "chemical imbalance" that could be cured by taking a pill.
"We were sold on antidepressants with the idea that they were benign and safe, merely repairing a "chemical imbalance" in the brain, as if they were taking us back to a lost Eden. But there is no chemical imbalance, and the fact is that no one knows how the drug work. And despite the popularity of the drugs, depression continues to grow in epidemic proportions." - Richard O Connor, PhD
Worse yet, the side effects were far more pervasive and serious than we were lead to believe.
Symptoms include:
Feeling shaky, agitated or anxious
Feeling and being sick
Indigestion and stomach aches
Diarrhoea or constipation
Loss of appetite
Dizziness
Insomnia or feeling drowsy and sleepy
Headaches
Loss of libido
Weight gain
Excessive sweating, especially at night
Heart palpitations
This doesn't mean that there is no hope for you if you have depression. It just means that antidepressants may not provide the long-term relief you're looking for.
